Abstract

Perhaps carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) has been somewhat sidelined as it was seen as the rather expensive cousin in the “greenhouse gas abatement” family. But during May 2018 at the 9th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM 9), rather than being a side event, CCUS was at the top table as energy ministers from around the world met to put in place an initiative that would protect the world from the negative impact of rising temperatures. Indeed, the lead up the CEM 9 was a time for a number of major announcements related to CCUS. With the US taking a strong lead, is CCS about to come of age?
