On the partial and total progeny of a bisexual Galton–Watson branching process

Abstract

A superadditive bisexual Galton–Watson branching process is considered and some results about the total number of mating units, females and males, until the nth generation, are studied. In particular, the probability generating functions and moments of these variables are studied. Finally, some non‐parametric estimators for the main parameters of the bisexual model, based on progeny, are proposed and their moment properties are investigated. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
