Abstract

Europa steht vor großen Herausforderungen in Bezug auf seine Wettbewerbsfähigkeit, verstanden als die Fähigkeit, seinen Bürger:innen dauerhaft hohen Wohlstand zu gewähren. Die Produktivitätsentwicklung der letzten zwanzig Jahre bietet keinen Grund zur Selbstzufriedenheit. Nicht nur hat sich das gemessene Produktivi- tätswachstum in den meisten Industrieländern verlangsamt, auch die Kluft zwischen der EU und den USA ist größer geworden. Nach den Draghi- und Letta-Berichten hat die Europäische Kommission mit dem Competitiveness Compass eine umfassende Agenda zur Verbesserung der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit vorgelegt. Dieser Artikel skizziert die Agenda hinsichtlich ihrer Motivation und ihrer wichtigsten Bestandteile.
