Sustainable Higher Education For The 21ST CENTURY

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to perform an analysis of the current state of Romanian higher education taking into account the changes, challenges and opportunities for a sustainable higher education system, and performing an integrative and anticipative approach to education. The relevance of the topic is supported by the endeavour of integrating Romanian education in the European higher education and the European research area. The paper shall clarify certain concepts: sustainability in higher education; formal vs. informal vs. non-formal education; degree vs competencies. and reach certain conclusions regarding graduates adaptability to labour market and society requirements.
