Abstract

The effective management of urban resources helps to solve contemporary problems, such as global warming, population growth and resource depletion. Therefore, a major trend is the creation of smart cities (SC), in which modern technologies cooperate to create benefits for citizens and offer a solution to some of these problems. The development of SC is based on information technologies, such as the Internet of Things, wireless networks, virtual reality and 3D modeling, big data processing and artificial intelligence. The aim of the report is to identify and systematize the challenges to the creation of SC and the possibilities for their use. Overcoming the challenges is achieved by introducing appropriate measures. The report systematizes the role and place of SC, examines SC technologies and the challenges to their implementation, and identifies challenges related to ethical, psychological and legal issues. Knowing the challenges and the opportunities to overcome them allows for the creation of a more secure and reliable SC that enjoys the trust of society.
