Abstract

Mr. Folger examines projections of the supply of Bachelor's and Doctoral graduates to see if fiscal or other restraints are likely to limit the expansion of graduate or undergraduate degree output. Demands for college graduates in elementary and secondary teaching, and in all other occupations combined, are compared with projected graduates; these comparisons suggest that supply is likely to be more than adequate to meet demand in the next decade. Demands for Doctorates in teaching, research, and all other occupations combined are compared with projected supply; a much more adequate supply is projected for the 1970-75 period. Implications of these comparisons are discussed. Mr. Trow, among other comments, suggests that the demand projections presented are too conservative. Mrs. Rivlin questions whether the projections will have, or should have, any effect upon policy-making.
