Abstract

Después de haber logrado escapar de la debacle financiera que la devaluación de 1983 habría generado, el sistema financiero venía presentando inconvenientes que se dejaban entrever en el deterioro de los índices de intermediación financiera, niveles de solvencia y de rentabilidad, situación que se agudizó con los ajustes instrumentados en 1989 en un ambiente de laza regulación financiera. En las siguientes líneas se intenta dar una explicación a las causas de la crisis del sector financiero y analizar hasta qué punto los indicadores bancarios reflejaban la verdadera situación interna de las instituciones.
