Economic crisis and their consequences on the Venezuelan economy

Abstract

La economía venezolana (dada su condición de país monoproductor, dependiente del comercio exterior, en el siglo XIX, de sus exportaciones de café y de cacao en el siglo XX, de sus exportaciones petroleras) es muy vulnerable a las fluctuaciones de los precios de tales productos en el mercado internacional. En ese escenario, en que se registran periódicas crisis, por la recurrencia de los ciclos económicos, las consecuencias de tales crisis se reflejan sobre desarrollo de la economía venezolana, agregándose a los enormes desajustes internos provocados por la constante inestabilidad política y las desacertadas políticas económicas. En este artículo se reseñan las principales crisis del capitalismo mundial y sus principales efectos sobre la economía venezolana durante los siglos XIX y XX.
