The manufacturing sector in the Venezuelan Andes

Abstract

La producción manufacturera de la región de los Andes se caracteriza por el predominio de las ramas tradicionales y por la presencia de establecimientos medianos y pequeños1. Ese predominio de establecimientos de dimensiones reducidas es probablemente consecuencia de un mercado regional, relativamente pequeño y disperso y de un mercado internacional poco accesible, como de desventajas en costos de transporte, resultantes de la lejanía de la Región con respecto a centros de consumo extra regionales importantes y también de sus propias características topográficas que hacen que se encarezcan los desplazamientos.
