Abstract

La Escuela de Economía de esta Ilustre Universidad nace con la recuperación democrática del país. En tres décadas se han desarrollado los estudios económicos en el seno de esta emérita casa del saber; en cinco décadas, desde 1938, cuando fue creada la Escuela Libre de Economía en la UCV, la disciplina que tiene por objeto el conocimiento de las causas y consecuencias de la riqueza y la Pobreza de las naciones, ha logrado cierto grado de madurez entre nosotros. En tres décadas se ha forjado una historia contemporánea del ejercicio de la democracia en Venezuela. Año de celebraciones, por tanto, este de 1988, en que también nos disponemos a cumplir, una vez más, como en quinquenios anteriores, el rito supremo de la soberanía popular: el de votar para elegir al gobernante, a los legisladores, representantes supuestos de la voluntad y la fe popular.
