Geographical Indicating of Origin of Agrofood Products: European Experience and National Prospects

Abstract

A legislative base in the field of the geographical indicating of origin of commodities and their role are systematized in providing of fair competition. Experience of EU member states is generalized in relation to legal legalization and fundamental differences are reflected between the different types of indication of places of production of agrofood goods. Geography of their distribution and economic efficiency of using are revealed as the instrument in competitive fight for customer retention and inducement are manifested. Reasons of little prevalence of the registered competent indicating of agrofood products origin in Ukraine are revealed. The suggestions aimed at identification of high-quality food products of home production, that deserve being fixed as intellectual property item, and also rising of their producing and competitiveness increasing on internal and external food markets are worked out.
