The peculiarities of risks of a social inequality in Ukraine are revealed. The basic problem of an inequality and poverty of the population is not resources shortage, but the mechanisms of the redistribution. The material inequality shows the only but very important cut-off the social inequality in the society. The complex analysis of inequality problem has to provide, along with others, criterion of the individual's position in social hierarchy. It will enable to separate out the social stratum with unequal vital chances and possibilities of requirements satisfaction which are defined both by material land other family's possibilities. It has been proved that the social inequality is not only a difference in incomes. It is also the style of life which is based on some specific norms, values, culture. The interconnection of the social inequality and the social risks is shown in behavioural people's strategies. The social inequality is connected with functional features of economy and society development, but the indices of inequality do not show these properties. Ultrahigh social and economic society differentiation and reproduction of unfair distributive mechanisms which cause new social disproportions can be found in Ukraine nowadays. The market which is not restricted by market institutes of redistribution can result in uncontrolled growth of social inequality. In the conditions of social and economic inequality when person's possibilities depend only on possession monetary resources, social selection becomes limited and in long-term prospect it can result in society degradation.
