Abstract

Este trabajo describe el tipo de cambio reptante como una función de reacción frente a shocks de las reservas internacionales destinada a restaurar un nivel deseado de las mismas. La estimación de las reglas de la devaluación para Argentina y Chile revela caracteres sistemáticos y bien definidos; al caer las reservas, por ejemplo, las autoridades devaluaron a una tasa mayor que el diferencial de inflación doméstica y mundial. Esta reactivación fue más que proporcional al movimiento de reservas, y se implementó casi exclusivamente en períodos de relativa escasez de liquidez internacional. Su efecto sobre las fluctuaciones del tipo de cambio real fue altamente significativo.
