Un modelo simplificado para calcular el tipo de cambio de equilibrio en Chile

Abstract

Uno de los precios más importantes en la economía es el de las monedas extranjeras o tipo de cambio. Las variaciones de éste, al afectar a los precios relativos de los distintos bienes comerciables internacionalmente y de los bienes no transables, influyen en forma importante sobre la asignación de recursos de la economía. Además, desde el punto de vista de la evaluación de proyectos de inversión, tanto privada como social, es necesario tener una idea de cuál va a ser el tipo de cambio en el futuro. Desde el punto de vista de un modelo teórico simplificado, los principales determinantes del tipo de cambio real en un país son la cantidad nominal de dinero existente en él y por saldos monetarios reales y la estructura de precios relativos. Cualquier cambio en alguna (o varias) de estas variables afectará al nivel de equilibrio de largo plazo del tipo de cambio.
