Protección efectiva: equilibrio general e insumo importado

    Se estudiará un modelo de dos bienes para países chicos (uno, X1, más intensivo en capital que el otro) y dos factores primarios domésticos (capital K y trabajo L). En general, se considerará un insumo M1 (importado) para el producto X1; alternativamente se analizará el caso donde X2 insume también M2. Como los países son pequeños, los términos de intercambios son fijos, de modo que los precios domésticos pueden diferir de los precios internacionales solamente por el juego de aranceles aplicados a los importados. En los modelos tradicionales (dos productos, dos factores domésticos) se analizan los efectos de variaciones en la estructura arancelaria aplicada a los productos finales. Estos aranceles actúan a la vez sobre la producción y el consumo. Sin embargo, en la realidad existen también insumos importados; la redistribución de los recursos entre productos depende ahora de la protección efectiva, diferencia entre la protección nominal al producto final y la protección a los insumos importados.
