Aspectos monetarios de la integración: consideraciones teóricas y las experiencias de la comunidad europea

Abstract

En este trabajo se analizan los aspectos teóricos de la unificación monetaria, comenzando por un estudio de la teoría tradicional de áreas monetarias óptimas. El estudio contiene una discusión de otros aportes más recientes en cuanto a los costos y beneficios de la integración monetaria. El análisis teórico se completa con un estudio de la nueva literatura sobre esquemas de limitación de la flexibilidad cambiaria. Luego, se usa este marco teórico para analizar los aspectos monetarios y macroeconómicos del proceso de integración económica en la Comunidad Económica Europea, incluyendo las experiencias del Sistema Monetario Europeo y la proposición de unificación monetaria de acuerdo de Maastrich.
