El rol de las regulaciones en el mercado laboral: el caso de Chile

Abstract

Este trabajo examina los cambios experimentados en el mercado laboral chileno durante los últimos años, como producto del ajuste estructura y las políticas de estabilización. El análisis se centra en el papel jugado por las instituciones que caracterizan al funcionamiento del mercado laboral chileno, y que han afectado la capacidad de respuesta de los salarios y el empleo a las políticas macroeconómicas. En particular, el trabajo discute los cambias en la respuesta observada en el mercado del trabajo en los períodos previo y posterior a la dictación de la nueva ley laboral de 1979. Se enfatiza la mayor elasticidad empleo-producto que se obtuvo como resultado del establecimiento de reglas del juego definidas, y que permitieron que los efectos de la recuperación económica post-1985 hayan sido satisfactorios en términos ocupacionales. El trabajo también discute el rol del salario mínimo en el contexto del ajuste económico, debido a su efecto directo sobre los salarios medios y la inflación de precios.
