Una interpretación de la evidencia en la participación de la mujeres en la fuerza de trabajo: Gran Santiago, 1957-1987

Abstract

El estudio busca una explicación al aumento en la tasa de participación femenina que se ha producido en los últimos diez a quince años en nuestro país. Se intentan probar varias hipótesis al respecto, para lo cual se estima una ecuación de participación de las mujeres, ajustada en sentido longitudinal con la serie de tiempo 1957-1987. Los resultados obtenidos aceptan la hipótesis de que la mayor incorporación de la mujer en la fuerza de trabajo es explicada por un efecto positivo de los salarios de la mujer y por un efecto negativo y más débil del ingreso de los hombres. También se encuentra un efecto directo de la educación sobre participación de las mujeres en la fuerza de trabajo, de tal forma que no todo su efecto se manifiesta a través de los salarios. De hecho una diferente especificación de la ecuación que incluye la variable de educación, muestra un aumento en el nivel explicativo del modelo y el coeficiente que acompaña a la variable de educación resulta positivo y estadísticamente signific
