Determinantes de la mortalidad de la población en Chile

Abstract

El objetivo de esta investigación es encontrar aquellas variables determinantes del nivel de mortalidad de la población en Chile. Se plantea como hipótesis la existencia de variables distintas a las de atención médica, que afectan en conjunto con éstas, la tasa de mortalidad. El modelo econométrico formulado, utiliza datos de las 13 regiones del país para el período 1976-1984. Se incluyen, como factores explicativos de la tasa de mortalidad, las variables consultas médicas, consultas médicas de urgencia, ocupación de camas de hospitales públicos, urbanización, cobertura de alcantarillado, educación media, producto geográfico bruto y una variable que incorpora el paso del tiempo. Los resultados encontrados confirman la hipótesis, ya que tanto variables de atención médica como del contexto socioeconómico explican, en forma determinante, la tasa de mortalidad para la población en Chile.
