Recesión, ajuste y el rol de los mercados laborales en América Latina

Abstract

Este artículo examina algunos de los “hechos característicos” de los mercados del trabajo latinoamericano durante la recesión de los años 1980 y los consiguientes procesos de ajuste. Junto con una significativa disminución de los salarios reales del sector formal, el desempleo abierto ha crecido en forma importante a la vez que el sector informal no se ha expandido significativamente. Tal conjunción de hechos tiene implicancias para modelar al mercado del trabajo en el ajuste, así también para derivar algunas medidas de política económica destinadas a acelerar el proceso de ajuste. De acuerdo a esto, discutimos en este trabajo los aspectos más importantes relativos a modelos de mercados del trabajo en países subdesarrollados.
