Salarios, rotación y seguridad en el empleo

Abstract

Muchos países en desarrollo tienen reglamentaciones de gran alcance, limitadas principalmente al sector moderno, para hacer cumplir las disposiciones sobre seguridad en el empleo (job security). Puede considerarse que la legislación sobre seguridad en el empleo refleja el poder sindical o el deseo político de extraer de las firmas en el sector formal beneficios para los trabajadores a cambio de tratamientos más favorables en relación a créditos o a políticas de comercio y mercado. Una explicación alternativa, que se postula en este trabajo, consiste en que la seguridad en el empleo es un aspecto resultante de la existencia de salarios de eficiencia. En tal sentido, la seguridad se ofrecería y es ofrecida por firmas incluso sin legislación coercitiva para reducir la rotación de trabajadores con capital humano específico a la firma.
