Abstract

La naturaleza fundacional de las cajas de ahorro supone la atención de unos peculiares compromisos a la hora del reparto de los beneficios a través de la dotación de fondos a la obra benéfico social, ya que una parte del excedente revierte en la comunidad donde se encuentra ubicada la entidad. En este trabajo, se analiza la evolución de recursos destinados a la obra social y la dedicación a las distintas áreas de actuación. Los resultados ponen de manifiesto un incremento en la dotación de fondos y la importancia relativa del área de cultura y tiempo libre. Uno de los problemas es quien realiza la gestión y administración de la obra social. En la actualidad, en la mayoría de las entidades dicha gestión es desarrollada de forma conjunta por un departamento de obra social y por las fundaciones asociadas a las cajas de ahorro.
