Abstract

Aunque la escuela católica de economía haya desparecido de los actuales manuales de historia del pensamiento económico, existió y fue considerada como tal en los que se publicaron en Europa en el último tercio del siglo XIX y primero del siglo XX. La escuela tuvo sus líderes, su metodología, sus instrumentos analíticos, sus reuniones periódicas, las revistas en las que expusieron sus ideas y una férrea disciplina para mantener cohesionado al grupo. Con seguidores en casi todo el mundo occidental, los países en los que alcanzó mayor implantación fueron Italia, Alemania, Francia, Bélgica, Suiza y España. En este trabajo se estudian los economistas académicos españoles que militaron en esta escuela en el periodo 1875-1936 y los libros de texto de economía política que utilizaron en sus enseñanzas, una cuestión que se plantearon hace tiempo Olascoaga (1896) y Franco (1927), pero que ha permanecido después en un olvido casi total.
