    (Nancy Forbes has held various positions in the analysis and management of science and technology policy issues in Washington DC, including consulting for the National Academies of Science and National Science Foundation, as well technical oversight for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). She is the author of Imitation of Life: How Biology is Inspiring Computing (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press), pubished in 2005, and of multiple papers and reports on emerging technologies.)
