    (Frank Tanser works as a spatial epidemiologist at the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies, based in Mtubatuba, South Africa. His research has focused on the applications of GIS and remote sensing technologies to a diverse range of environmental and health problems. He was responsible for setting up and managing a comprehensive GIS within the Africa Centre's large population-based initiative that monitors and tracks vital events in a population of 85,000 in the surrounding area. He has worked for the South African Medical Research Council as a senior health GIS consultant and has undertaken numerous GIS related projects throughout Africa.)
