Abstract

Before the repeal of the Wright Amendment in 2014, carriers at Dallas Love Field airport were prohibited from providing a nonstop service to a majority of cities in the United States. This paper evaluates the price and traffic changes on routes from Love Field and the nearby Fort Worth International airport following the repeal. The findings suggest significant price decreases and traffic increases on nonstop routes from Love Field, but some of this traffic comes at the expense of Fort Worth. On balance, the repeal has increased competition and consumer welfare overall, although on some routes traffic and competition have decreased.
