China’s Investment Strategy in Uzbekistan: Sectoral Trends and Strategic Implications (2013–2024)

Abstract

This study analyzes China’s investments under the Belt and Road initiative (BRI) between 2013 and 2024.This research explains the sectoral distribution of China’s investments and their strategic implications. The researchprovides a comprehensive analysis of 41 registered Chinese investments from the American Enterprise Institute. Thefindings reveal that China is prioritizing the funding of construction projects over direct investment, accounting for 66.72% of the total. In terms of sectoral distribution, the energy sector is dominant with 56.98%, followed by real estate andchemicals with 21.21% and 9.06%, respectively. The study shows that China and Uzbekistan share common interestsin green energy, regional decarbonization and infrastructure modernization. The results show that under the PresidentShavkat Mirziyoyev’s administration the number of projects increased. The paper offers several recommendations suchas diversification of China’s investments and the promotion of future-oriented strategies
