Transformation of MSMEs and Creative Industries: Implementation of a Circular Economy-based C-Commerce Model

This study aims to design and develop a conceptual model and prototype of a Circular Economy-based Collaborative Commerce (C-Commerce) platform to enhance innovation capacity and digital collaboration among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Parepare City, Indonesia, in response to the country’s low recycling rate and sustainability challenges. A design and development research approach was applied, involving system modelling, prototype development, and task-based performance testing. Quantitative usability evaluation was conducted with MSME users using structured assessment instruments to measure system effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction. The prototype demonstrated effective operational performance, achieving an average usability score of 4.16, indicating high user satisfaction and functional reliability. The system successfully facilitates collaboration, sustainable product promotion, and digital transaction processes among MSMEs. The findings contribute theoretically by integrating circular economy principles with collaborative digital commerce models. Practically, the system provides a scalable solution for strengthening MSME competitiveness and supporting sustainable waste management initiatives. This study offers an innovative C-Commerce model tailored to local MSME ecosystems, integrating sustainability and digital collaboration within a circular economy framework.
