Abstract

Women entrepreneurship substantially contributes to a country’s socioeconomic advancement. This article aims to discover the constraints that impede women entrepreneurs’ smooth operation and development in emerging countries. It also identifies the enablers behind women entrepreneurship’s success that contribute to sustainable development. The article has been developed through a systematic literature review by analyzing 51 recent studies and articles on women entrepreneurship development literature. Additionally, we have conducted a bibliometric analysis. To determine the most significant articles, we developed an importance–performance analysis matrix based on the average citation rate and total citation count of the publications. The analysis identified the different enablers and barriers to women entrepreneurship in emerging countries and how women entrepreneurship can lead to sustainable development. Also, the study formulated a framework for sustainable development through women entrepreneurship. The research findings provide implications for policy makers by identifying barriers and enablers and devising appropriate strategies.
