Performance improvement of a high-efficiency low-RCS Fabry–Perot antenna by using coding and incomplete partially reflective surface

Abstract

In antenna design, there typically exists a trade-off between achieving high radiation efficiency and reducing radar cross-section (RCS). In this work, by designing an incomplete partially reflective surface (PRS) and optimizing its arrangement, an improved Fabry-Perot (F-P) antenna with enhanced efficiency and reduced RCS is proposed. The designed PRS not only introduces additional reflection paths to enhance scattering cancellation, but also incorporates tapered transmission coefficients for source radiation, thereby significantly improving the overall radiation and scattering performance. The proposed F-P antenna was fabricated and measured after optimizing the arrangement of the incomplete PRS and conducting full-wave simulations. Both simulated and measured results demonstrate that the antenna exhibits excellent performance, achieving a peak gain of 15.72 dBi at 10.4 GHz and showing scattering reduction capability within the frequency range of 8.0 ∼ 12.0 GHz.
