Abstract

A wideband filtering metasurface (MTS) antenna with high edge roll-off rate is proposed in this letter. The MTS is analyzed and optimized using characteristic mode analysis (CMA) to generate radiation nulls at higher frequencies, while a quarter-wavelength stub integrated into the feedline produces a lower-frequency null. A prototype antenna was fabricated and experimentally validated. Measurement results confirm that the antenna achieves a 33.8% impedance bandwidth, a peak gain of 7.92 dBi, and edge roll-off rates exceeding 81.6 dB/GHz, demonstrating strong potential for modern 5G communication systems.
