Miniaturized and low-cost design for rectangular slotted crossovers with high isolation

Abstract

This paper introduces a novel technique for design of miniaturized patch crossovers operating in L, S and C bands, featuring high isolation characteristics and improved bandwidth. The innovation lies in the incorporation of rectangular slots within the conventional patch crossovers which changes the surface current distribution and mitigates electromagnetic radiation as well as interference resulting in improved device characteristics. Through rigorous simulations and experimental validations, the properties of the proposed crossover are verified and validated. For square crossovers, when comparison is done with non-slotted counterparts, the slotted crossover design enhances the isolation by at least 15 dB, reduces the patch size by 24% and fractional bandwidth is enhanced by a factor of 2. The miniaturized form factor, combined with high isolation and improved bandwidth, positions the proposed patch crossover as an effective component for advanced wireless communication systems.
