Abstract

A novel Minkowski-inspired circular fractal perforated microwave absorber fused with a heterogeneous composite (HC) is proposed and demonstrated in this work. The proposed absorber design features a perforated circular fractal pattern inspired by the Minkowski loop. The circular fractal perforated pattern was then fused with the synthesized HC of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). This fusion results in a “heterogeneous composite fused perforated fractal (HC-F-PF)” microwave absorber. A 2.7 mm thick absorber achieves a -10 dB bandwidth (BW) of 4.0 GHz at the X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz), with dual absorption peaks at 9.6 and 12.1 GHz and minimum reflection coefficient (RC) of -28.2 and -19.5 dB, respectively. The HC-F-PF absorber shows good resemblance between the simulated and measured responses. The measured permittivity and permeability further confirm the underlying absorption mechanisms.
