Abstract

A new type of planar leaky-wave antenna with omnidirectional radiation is presented in this paper. The structure is formed by a periodic array of unitary cells with open-plates and defected-ground open-rings. The proposed type of antenna presents steering capability covering broadside radiation toward backward and forward directions. Antenna parameters and circuit analysis, including return/insertion-loss, radiation pattern, gain, efficiency, and unitary-cell model are all provided. Simulated and measured results are shown. The proposed type of antenna possesses the advantage of low profile and low cost, providing high design flexibility for the real applications.
