The influence of hologram instructor character design on student pleasure in educational settings

Abstract

Holographic technology applications are becoming increasingly popular, particularly in the field of education. One stimulating and fascinating application is the use of holographic instructors. However, the incorporation of real human characters as holographic instructors may potentially reduce user comfort, especially among students, thereby diminishing the overall enjoyment of the experience. This study aims to determine how different character designs of holographic instructors affect student enjoyment. The study involved 90 college students, all aged 21. The participants were divided into three groups of 30 students each, with each group viewing a session with a different hologram instructor persona: actual human, robotic human, and 3D cartoon human. A Self-Assessment Manikin (SAM) questionnaire was used to measure the effect on enjoyment. One-Way ANOVA and Post-Hoc tests were used to analyse the collected data.
