The UNECE Water Convention and the development of transboundary cooperation in the Chu-Talas, Kura, Drin and Dniester River basins

Abstract

This article describes the support of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and partners for developing transboundary cooperation in four basins (Chu-Talas, Kura, Drin and Dniester Rivers) and the progress achieved. The work has been based on the application of international water law as reflected in the UNECE Water Convention and guided by the body of experience accumulated under the convention. Experiences from this work are described and conclusions drawn.
