Exit, voice, rebellion: favourable factors for the democratisation of work

Abstract

The democratisation of states and territories did not happen by chance. Certain historical circumstances have led to co-determination and shared power. The same is true for organisations and companies. There are conditions that favour the development of flat hierarchies in which participation and criticism of the rulers are allowed. These include the size of the organisation, the exit options, the distribution of knowledge between leadership and staff, their competencies, and their willingness to respond to oppression through revolt and solidarity. This article discusses favourable factors for a democratisation of the world of work.
