Cost-benefit analysis of complex solar photovoltaic retrial systems incorporating imperfect coverage and switching failure

Abstract

This study compares four solar photovoltaic (PV) power configurations, each consisting of primary and standby units, by incorporating imperfect coverage and unit switching failure. The four retrial configurations include different numbers of primary and standby units. Both primary and standby units can fail and, upon failure, can be repaired immediately. The failure times of both primary and standby units are exponentially distributed. We assume equal coverage factors for both primary and standby unit failures. Explicit formulas for reliability function, mean time to failure (MTTF), and steady-state availability are derived using Laplace stieltjes transform (LST). Numerical findings are displayed through tables and graphs, ranking based on the MTTF and steady-state availability followed by a comparative cost-benefit analysis. The findings of this research offer decision-makers valuable insights for maintaining a stable PV configuration and achieving cost reduction.
