Abstract

Understanding innovative behaviour in non-profit organisations (NPOs) can assist them in adopting new technologies and innovative solutions that address commercial and societal needs. This study seeks to establish a set of factors that characterise the capacity for innovation in NPOs. To this end, the following study draws on the qualitative analysis of 11 interviews with medical and managerial specialists working in Brazilian medical associations. In exploring innovativeness in NPOs, the factor most frequently cited by interviewees regards the pursuit of ‘creative solutions and experimenting with processes, products, and services’. Stemming from the conceptual framework of innovativeness, the present study offers a set of factors that enable understanding of the capacity for innovative practices in NPOs.
