Impact of logistics performance on international trade - a test based on meta-analysis

Abstract

The continuous growth in world trade depends on the quality of transport infrastructure and the efficiency of logistics services. Despite the rich research findings on the effect of logistics performance in international trade, there is some variation and disagreement in the results. This paper uses the meta-analysis method to integrate the results of previous studies. Through literature searching, screening, and coding, the final study integrated the impact of logistics performance on international trade based on 67 effect sizes obtained from 50 selected papers that are available from the literature up to April 2023. The results using the FAT-PET-PEESE test show that logistics performance has a positive effect on international trade, and their relationship is moderated by various factors. The study is also extended by investigating whether meta-analysis can apply to regional trade research using the sample of “Belt and Road’ (B&R). The findings show that the promotion of logistics development, especially in the B&R countries, is meaningful to trade growth; In addition, more meaningful research directions in this field are worth exploring.
