Health inequality in economics: origin and developments

Abstract

In this article we discuss economists’ interest in health inequalities, tracing its emergence and development across various lines of research: health economics, welfare analysis, and the study of income inequality and poverty. We examine when and how economists engaged with this topic as well as the key issues at stake.
