Abstract

Between September and November 2022 events unfolded in and around Ukraine that led to a nuclear crisis, involving Russia, the United States, and other countries. This timeline of events has been compiled based on a literature review, official statements as well as open-source reporting. Where necessary, Russian sources have been used and translated by the authors. The sequence of events and their clustering in the second half of October allow to trace the evolution of the crisis up until the point of heated bilateral exchanges between high-ranking US and Russian officials. After the visit by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Beijing and the subsequent Russian withdrawal from Kherson, Russian nuclear threats receded. The Bali G20 Summit with its Leaders’ Declaration in mid-November marks the end of the Fall Crisis.
