Abstract

Investigates the impact of oil price fluctuations on output, inflation, and the real exchange rate in selected Eastern European countries using SVAR. Findings suggest that these countries’ macroeconomic variables are interlinked and exhibit long-term common trends. The impulse response analysis shows that these countries initially experience a contraction in real GDP following an oil price shock. However, the economies demonstrate resilience as real GDP recovers within a few quarters. Variance decomposition highlights that oil price shocks have more pronounced influence on real GDP in some countries and in the inflation rate and the real exchange rate in other countries.
