Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die ökonomische Forschung zum Thema „Weihnachten“ hat sich mit dem potenziellen Wohlfahrtsverlust durch Weihnachtsgeschenke beschäftigt. Joel Waldfogel hat in einem vieldiskutierten Aufsatz untersucht, ob der subjektive Wert der Geschenke geringer ist als seine Kosten. Dieser Ansatz ignoriert die Wohlfahrtswirkung der Geschenke auf die Schenkenden. In einer Umfrage unter Studenten wurde gezeigt, dass das Schenken einen Mehrwert schafft, weil es den Schenkenden Freude bereitet. Dies sollte bei der wirtschaftlichen Bewertung von Weihnachtsgeschenken nicht ignoriert werden.
