Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Handwerk fungiert nach wie vor als Fachkräftezubringer für die anderen gewerblichen Bereiche der deutschen Wirtschaft. Diese Aufgabe ist für den Innovationsstandort Deutschland von nicht zu unterschätzender Bedeutung. Viele der abgewanderten Gesellen und Meister sind inzwischen in besonders innovationsstarken Branchen tätig. Insbesondere in der forschungsintensiven Industrie üben sie häufig komplexe Experten- und Spezialistentätigkeiten in innovativen Arbeitsumgebungen aus. Unter volkswirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten ist folglich von positiven externen Effekten im Innovationssystem auszugehen, die vom Qualifizierungsbereich Handwerk auf die gesamte gewerbliche Wirtschaft wirken.
