Abstract

Water and climate change are inextricably and intricately linked. Water security and adapting to global climate change are therefore two of the most pressing challenges for sustainability science and management. While disciplinary and sectoral approaches have advanced considerably over the years, there has also been an increasing recognition that water security and climate resilience need to be considered in highly complex human-environment systems. A good example is the concept of the “Triple Planetary Crisis”, which considers climate change, the pollution of all environmental compartments, and massive biodiversity loss as three interrelated and interdependent processes that require careful co-management and thus nexus approaches.
