Abstract

Editorial Note . November 14, 2020, marks the 85th anniversary of the birth of Academician Viktor Ivanter, who was for 20 years the head of the Institute of Economic Forecasting, Russian Academy of Sciences, and was the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Problemy Prognozirovaniya (Studies on Russian Economic Development). Academician Ivanter always encouraged researchers to carry out practical work to support decision-making in the field of economic policy. He saw economic forecasting based on fundamental research as an important part of this work. This anniversary issue of the journal presents two texts written by Academician V.V. Ivanter. One of them is a note dating back to the middle of 2019 with his proposals for organizing a forecasting system within the Russian Academy of Sciences in view of the latest institutional innovations of that time. The other text is his interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, where he tells the reader, in his own style—simple yet imaginative, his thoughts on modern economic forecasting, his life’s work.
