Abstract

This study aims to investigate disaster preparedness of individuals living in Turkey after the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. This descriptive study was conducted with 1143 individuals who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study between May and October 2023 in the provinces affected by the earthquake that occurred on 06.02.2023 in Turkey. Data were collected through the “Personal Information Form” to determine the participants’ socio-demographic characteristics and the “Disaster Preparedness Scale” to assess their preparedness for disasters. The participants’ Disaster Preparedness Scale (DPS) total mean score was found to be 28.80 ± 4.50. DPS mean scores demonstrated significant differences according to income level, the age of the house where they lived, the number of people living in the house, having insurance for the house where they lived, thinking that the house is robust against disasters, having their house checked against disasters, receiving disaster training, experiencing earthquakes, following news about disasters, and being prepared for earthquakes (p
