Abstract

Background Workplace exposure to low-frequency whole-body vibration (WBV) is closely associated with musculoskeletal disorders, particularly chronic low back pain (LBP) and lumbar disc herniation. Current biomechanical models assess health risks, but lack validation against actual incidence rates in affected populations. Methodology Self-reported LBP among dumper operators (n = 61) was assessed using the Standard Nordic Questionnaire. WBV exposure levels were measured in an open-cast coal mine, and biomechanical models predicted health risks related to WBV and its cumulative impact on the lumbar spine. Structured interviews gathered data on individual characteristics and work-related risk factors. To explore the influence of these factors on the risk of lumbar injury (RA), regression analysis was performed, linking personal and occupational risk factors to RA values derived from the biomechanical models.
