Controlling power in the social economy: A socialist approach

Abstract

It remains a question that we cannot at present answer with certainty. As long as the question remains unanswered, the pursuit of socialism will remain the only extant version of the enlightenment humanist vision of people freely and rationally controlling their own lives. And if the preponderance of evidence should convince us all that the authoritarian personality is indeed inherent in human nature, the death of that humanist vision would be, I believe, among the saddest tragedies of human history.
